Madness As a Way of Seeing: An Experimental Writing Workshop

We invite you to take part, on your own time, in the following experimental writing workshop, led originally by Dr. Cara-Julie Kather—who also created the visual guide below (and linked here).

As a treat, here is what the experimental writing workshop unearthed, from the mind of one of the mad attendees (shared with permission):

Am I trapped in a hell of my own creation?
Or, are the shapes and colors, textures and tastes, of the air all around me truly shifting across time and space.

The interdimensional planes of past, present, future.
Of then, and now.
Of the feeling of my body against these cold, damp bed sheets.

To exist at all… muddled and mixed up and sloshing around in the pit of my stomach [or, is the in the center of my brain?].

Am I the only one who can truly see? Perhaps it is because I feel too deeply. Too much. That those neurons and synapses fire and twitch without so much as a care. Like little electric shocks, striking through the core of my being.

And, yet? The question remains… is there being?
Or, within the nothingness, did I invent myself?

For, if there is no “I,” or “me,” or “we,” then there also is no her, no yellow, no bars, no light, no dark, no wallpaper at all.
